Which Shipping Method Should I Choose for my Japanese Driver's License Translation?

Choosing the right shipping method for your Japanese driver’s license translation depends on your schedule and needs. We offer various options to ensure you receive your translation in time. Here’s an overview of the available shipping methods:

1. EMS Shipping (Express Mail Service) – The Fastest Option

Need your translation as quickly as possible? Then EMS shipping is the ideal choice. On average, delivery takes about 12 days from order placement. So, if you plan to travel to Japan within a month of ordering and want to have the translation directly with you, this option is recommended.

2. International Standard Shipping

This option is suitable if your visit to Japan is a little further in the future (about 2 months from the order date). Important note for Germany: Customs in Frankfurt often take a lot of time, which can delay delivery. Expect about 25 days for the letter to arrive. For France, Belgium, and Switzerland, customs are usually faster, and delivery is correspondingly earlier.

3. Delivery to Your Accommodation in Japan

If you already know where you will be staying and would like the translation sent directly to your hotel or Airbnb, this option is recommended. However, please make sure you place the order in good time, as the JAF (Japan Automobile Federation) is sometimes very busy, and processing may be delayed. As a rule of thumb, it would be good if you placed the order at least 14 days before your arrival.

4. Self-Print at 7-Eleven

Traveling to Japan in a few days and don’t have a translation of your driver’s license yet? Then this option is perfect for you! After your arrival, you can simply print your translation yourself with a code at one of the many 7-Eleven convenience stores. Self-printing is, of course, also ideal for anyone who is on a budget, as this option is the most affordable. Here you can find our manual on how to self-print your Japanese driver’s license translation at 7-Eleven. Ideally, send us your order at least one week before your arrival in Japan, as the JAF only works on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and there may be a public holiday in between. For requests with less than one week’s notice, we cannot guarantee timely processing (we will, of course, do our best, and it usually works out in time).

Order Your Translation Today

Make sure to order in time since during Golden Week (April 29 to May 6) the JAF is closed and translations won't be processed. Please order until April 23rd if you want to drive between April 25 to May 7. Use Coupon Code GW10 for 10% off (valid until May 6, 2025).
